Introducing Youth to Community Work

Students are now volunteering at variety of places such as Light House Publishing, Tamine Blind School, Orphange House, YWCA street children project, and Mary Chapman School for the deaf.

MDS activities in 2008- Computer trainings









To follow the MDS mandate, the computer trainings were provided to 20 students who have finished their high school- 10th standard. Using the new methodology in teaching computer class, MDS used digitizing technice such as using digital camera, using scanner, understading picture format, using basic photoshop software, basic file sharing protocol. The students learnt the computer works through digitzing work.



The training last for 2 months. Sutdents were also give other special talks and sight seeing to local non-profit institution such as Blind School, Mary Chapman Deaf School and visit to Nargis Relief work in thanlyi.

Digitizing= scanning or photographing old books and images in to digital format.

MDS activities in 2008- Peer education Programme



This is the continuing part of the project “Introducing Youth to Community work.” As mentioned in the “Previous Grant Experience,” the first stage of 3 months program on capacity building youth to involve in the community works has been conducted from September 2007 to March 2008. The partners included Anglican Youth Center, Myanmar Business Coalition on AIDS (MBCA), Thingaha Gender Working Group, National YWCA and individual resource persons.

In the second stage, the students are expected to become as peer educators among their peer to give information related to the danger of drugs, the HIV/AIDS awareness, Gender and Development, how to think critical, and so on. In this project, students are expected to get additional trainings, and they will be sent to the field for 2 months to conduct peer educations.

The project will focus on the following

Refresher Training

During the refresher training, the students will be provided with tools, information, and techniques to bring what they have learned in the class room; more hands on trainings to conduct peer educations; how to initiative networking with other organization with similar goals and settings; introducing games and funs dos during the trainings; preparing lesson plan before and after giving talks; monitoring and reporting aspect of their works. In addition, students will be also give information on other topics on Critical Thinking, Environmental issue (bad habits on using plastic bags), Today Youth and community work, Health General and others. The refresher training will also equip students to be a resource person and become a change agent in their communities.

End of the training, the students are expected to produce the following working mechanism
1- Work plan (how they will be doing the training, who will involved, what kind of materials they will be using, what kind of activities they will be doing- Each group will be developing their own work plan depending on the needs.)
2- Progress Reporting requirements
3- Financial Reporting requirements (students will be given small amount to do field works in their respective communities. MDS finance team will give 2 hours section on how they will be preparing required documentation for the expenses)

Intensive Training at Host Organization

This one week of time frame will give students to know more in the issue which they have more interests. Students will be split in to 4 areas to spend 1 week of time at the host organization. It is expected that students will
1- Collect any information useful for them to apply in their communities such as IEC materials, video CD, flip charts, etc.
2- Equip students to become Peer Educators in the respective field and last minute update on the information
3- Build network of associates to continue (Have network with the host organization to conduct similar activities even after the end of project)

Peer education in their respective areas

Total 20 students will be given peer education trainings. Each student is expected to reach another 5 direct beneficiaries, and 10 indirect beneficiaries in their communities. Most of the beneficiaries will be youth between 16-24 years. The students are expected to spend 100 working hours to reach their objectives. They will be given travel allowances, and other necessary costs to conduct those activities in their communities.
